Emily Finds Her Voice
The Autism News | English
Rockingham County, NC — Eleven-year-old Emily Kassay has autism and lost her speech before she was two years-old. Her mom, Virginia, has been working diligently ever since to get it back. “Cause when she lost her voice, I vowed that I would get it back no matter what, so we did.”
Kassay found a voice machine that would let Emily communicate, but had to give it back to the school district after only a few weeks of use. The machine cost $7500 and the family was working to raise money to buy it when News 2 shared their story. But Murphy’s Kids, a charity started by 107.5 WKZL host Jack Murphy, saw the story and stepped up and bought the machine. Virginia said, “It’s an amazing gift, a gift we have been waiting for since Emily lost her voice, and now Emily has a voice.”
