School uses vinegar to discipline children
The Autism News | English
Children at a Texas Elementary School allegedly had cotton balls soaked in vinegar put into their mouths and were forced to go on a treadmill longer and faster than they wanted to as a form of discipline. The children being disciplined suffer from autism.
Autism is a bio-neurological developmental disablility, which impacts the normal development of the brain, making it hard for children to interact with others and communicate either verbally or non-verbally. Diagnosis usually takes place before the age of three.
The school’s disciplinary practices are called aversive interventions and vinegar-soaked cotton balls put in the mouth along with similar abusive disciplinary strategies are not illegal in schools, says the National Autism Association. Lori McIllwain, executive director of the NAA says that she has heard many reports of aversive interventions being used, such as students being denied food and water, spraying students in the eyes with lemon juice, force feeding, and shaving cream being put in the mouth —and it’s all legal.

Thank You Ann Sekerak ·for the additional Information by link. This comes as no surprise to me. Parents need to realize that the people we leave our children with daily are human. Just because the have a fancy degree, doesn’t mean we put total trust In anyone. This foolishness known as abuse is happening to children everyday. Whether It’s a Doctor, Teacher, Parent, Etc…, What does surprise me however, Is that by now their is no law, or documented public proof, that this as been notified as cruelity. You would have to be a monster, to administer unjust punishment on any child,Let alone one with a developmental delay. This both sickens me, & saddens me. Unfortunately this is the society we live In. As I stated above, It wouldn’t be mine….& I wouldn’t stand by & witness It happening to another child either. If It’s done In the home, It’s child abuse. But It’s said to not be a crime In that school. *BS* Abuse, is Abuse, Is Abuse!!!! & I could not knowing allow that to happen. Pathetic!!!!
In reading the link Ann Sekerak ·provided, It does appear that parent’s are complaining, & the Issues are being looked Into, or Investigated. Unfortunately, They now have to fight the city & state for change. It’s just awful. The principal of the school should be ashamed……As well as all participating parties. what nut In their right mind, would spray lemon juice in a childs eyes? Put vinegar cotton balls In a childs mouth? What else are they doing unknown? Let us pray……
It is absolutely hard breaking to hear that such cruel acts of punishments are adminstered on children anywhere. This abuse, abuse, abuse…. A child with autism does not have the mental ability to endure such cruel & unjust punishment. Whether this is considered legal or not, this wouldn’t be my child. GOD DISLIKES UGLY!!!! & THIS IS AS UGLY AS IT GETS.
CORRECTION ABOVE ~ HARD BREAKING/SHOULD BE HEART BREAKING….
It is child abuse plain and simple!! Parents, don’t tolerate this treatment to your child!! Get mad and stand up for your child or grandchild!! Makes me sick and if all of the teachers go along with this there is something wrong with them all and actually they are dangerous! If it is a school in Oregon I would visit the school personally and with many parents and grandparents! We have to stand up and be heard!! NOW!
YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY CORRECT……
