DETROIT (WXYZ) – Relief and tears of joy for Maryanne Godboldo Monday morning as she heard Circuit Court judge Gregory Bill affirm a decision made by another judge’s ruling to dismiss the charges she faced.
Godboldo was charged with resisting arrest and shooting a gun off inside her house. The incident in March led to an eight hour standoff with police.
Officer’s had come to her home to remove her 13 year old daughter and place her in protective custody. Case workers believed Godboldo was not administering the correct medication to the teen.
According to Godboldo’s attorney the girl has mental health issues that have not yet been diagnosed. She was pleased with Judge Bill’s ruling.
“He gave an excellent lesson to the seasoned attorneys on the, on the law,” said Godboldo, “I hope they would remember that because it’s very important, that they are dealing with people’s lives.”
Months ago a judge dismissed the charges against Godboldo because the order to remove Godboldo’s daughter was invalid. “We thank Judge Bill for upholding a parent’s constitutional right to choose whether a parent should medicate their child,” said Allison Folmar, the attorney representing Godboldo.
