The Autism News | English
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Center For Autism And Related Disorders in Bakersfield recently sent out a notice to employees saying a former administrative assistant is believed to have stolen new hire paperwork and employee tax documents that contained names, addresses, birth dates, Social Security numbers and bank account numbers.
The former assistant allegedly took the confidential records in late December when she was hired, worked a couple weeks and then called out sick and never returned to work.
23 ABC contacted CARD and they released this statement: “Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) Human Resources department recently became aware of a possible breach of employee records in our Bakersfield office. We immediately started an investigation and are currently working with the local police. Presently, we have no reason to believe that any employee identities have been tampered with. We have instructed employees as to how to proceed to protect themselves and we are in the process of a complete investigation and audit. The security of confidential information is of critical importance to us and we make every effort to safeguard it. CARD will continue to support our employees in any way possible and are prepared to take legal action if necessary.”
23 ABC spoke to Holly Culhane of PAS Human Resources Consultants, who said incidents like this are not uncommon.
It’s unknown how many employees are affected.
