A Palmerston North taxi firm says it is “completely ashamed” over a series of mistakes that led to one of its drivers leaving a blind and autistic man alone after he was dropped off at the wrong suburb.

Taxis Palmerston North operations manager Nigel Kinniburgh said a formal complaint from the family of Palmerston North man Andrew Heyward had yet to be received but the incident was being investigated.

Mr Heyward lives in a home owned by Idea Services with four other people with disabilities who are all under constant care.

Early on Sunday morning he was meant to be dropped off at his swimming coach’s house in Dunk Pl in Milson so that he and the rest of a Special Olympics team could travel to an event in Upper Hutt together.
